Playing sketch up, part 2

OK, be kind. I spent hours doing this sketch for my new header to replace the one with President Obama that we put up there for my inauguration coverage. I’m way out of practice with my drawing and this is my least favorite subject for portraits so take that into consideration. But what do you think? Should I use this one? I have some ideas for other images in the header, but this will be the dominant one unless I hear howls of protest.

In case you’re wondering, it’s a mixed-media drawing. I used colored pencil, pastel and conte crayon (because I didn’t have any black chalk, what’s up with that?).  I started out emulating a colored pencil drawing I did of my father on pastel paper some years ago that I rather liked, but then I just went wild with the pastels on the hair for some reason. Here’s the drawing I did of my Dad lo those many years ago… (It’s better because I spent more time on it).

LOL, even in that sketch of yours i’m totally jealous of your thick, shiny hair!

    NO. No. no. It’s a digital world, not a chalk-drawing, pastel-colored one!

No to the sketch, yes to a photo!
