Liam Flanagan knew he did good when his mom, Tavi, told him that the family had won a free brunch to celebrate Mother’s Day at the District shopping center in Tustin Saturday.

“When Mom came in and told me I got really excited,” the 8-year-old Lincoln Elementary School student from Corona Del Mar said Saturday just before he enjoyed the prize for drawing a winning picture of Mom. The District, Whole Foods and Newport Beach-based Daddy Cakes Bakery sponsored the contest. Fifty Moms and their loved ones were invited down to the shopping center Saturday to indulge in an old-fashioned pancake breakfast courtesy of Daddy Cakes, which makes the pancake mix, and Whole Foods, which supplied the rest of the fixings.danandlevidaddycakesweb.jpg

Liam wasn’t the only winning Flanagan. Six-year-old Aidan also submitted a winning drawing. Four-year-old Roan is a little too young to play Picasso.

The mastermind behind the whole operation was Tavi’s own mother, known as “Ga Ga,” Liam’s nickname for grandma when he was a toddler. She picked up a flier for the contest at Whole Foods and got the boys to work.

“Grandma’s great that way,” Tavi said, appreciating her own mother before the holiday.

As for the boys, “I was very excited and proud that they did that. I’m very proud of my boys,” she said.
