Staff sketchings, part 3
Lisa Cosenza, our advertising director, was, by far, the hardest portrait I did last week. I worked the longest on it, and it is probably the least accurate and successful. I really bungled the eyes, which I never do. The proportions are way off. I stopped and started this drawing probably half a dozen times.
Lisa’s portrait, for some reason, was a real challenge. I’m not quite certain why. But I think the most likely culprit was the very tiny photo I was working off of. The lighting in it was also funky, making it difficult to establish definition with shading.
Oh well. You can’t win ’em all. I did my best. Funny thing is that after that my drawings really improved because, in unorthodox fashion, I worked from the eyes outward. Ironically, I started drawing this in a more classical and correct way and it didn’t work. I’m confident, though, if I had another shot at drawing Lisa, and if I worked from a photograph that I took then it would be far better.
Thanks Paul,
I was starting to think I really looked like this
