DeVore’s campaign: Too legit to quit

One thing I love about Assemblyman Chuck DeVore is his sense of humor.

I knew the moment I saw a picture of him with MC Hammer at the inaugural Shorty Awards in New York, where Chuck picked up the top prize in the politics division, that I had to post it on my blog. That’s just too funny — very conservative Chuck DeVore with Mr. Hammerpants himself (Remember the “Hammerman” cartoon?). But make no mistake, DeVore’s well aware of the irony. He’s also sharp enough to know when to loosen his tie and show he’s human. All good politicians know that.

Wednesday night at the annual Newport Beach “Mayor’s Dinner” several of the city’s past mayors were called up on stage, so I took a picture.

I thought it might be funny to do a little contest. Here’s how it works: The first person to post the correct names of the mayors on this post’s comment thread wins.

C’mon, sing it! Remember that goofy Zager and Evans one-hit wonder?

While at the mayor’s dinner in Newport Beach tonight I got the feeling at some point that Ed Selich’s speech could be sung to the tune of “In the Year 2525.”

I know some folks liked the mayor’s speech, but I thought it was odd that he decided to set it in the future as he took his audience on a tour of Newport Beach in the year 2025. Here we are facing economic Armageddon and hizzoner’s talking about 16 years in the future? Are times that bad that he wanted to change the subject?
