Bacon in the fun
I got a quick look at the Orange County Fair Thursday night and came away impressed.
Think Big? How about Livin’ Extra Large? That’s the kicker I dreamed up for all of our county fair stories this year in tribute to the fair’s “Think Big” theme.
Thursday night started with a visit to Yelp’s homage to everything bacon. It was like a trip to Mecca for Mona, and when I saw her gobble down the chocolate-covered bacon I thought she would drop to her knees praising the creator. My apologies to my more religious friends, but, hey, when it comes to the county fair it can bring out the zealot in anyone — especially if we’re talking deep-fried treats.
After the bacon-fest we wandered the grounds, mostly taking stock of the carnival rides and even getting a bird’s-eye view of the fair grounds from the people mover. Then we ran into Mark Anthony, proprietor of Nifty 50s Hollywood Collectibles, and his booth looked like an altar to 50s and 60s memorabilia. I mean, Beatles cartoon lunch boxes and mugs? Where do I sign up? I’ll have more on Mark and his collection later, but if you go to the fair be sure to stop by his booth if you love Lucy, John Wayne, Johnny Cash, Marilyn… you get the picture.
I’m going to have a lot of fun at the fair this year. Stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures from the super fair.
Who can resist a pretty girl at the county fair?
DJ Fluent spins my favorite old-school R&B
Fluent’s flow gets me on the dance floor. Don’t hate… I can’t resist Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September.”
Mmmmmmm, chocolate-covered bacon almost puts Mona in a Homerific coma. Chocolate-covered bacon… is there anything you can’t do?
Then it’s my turn for a treat — Mother’s Market’s vegan bacon club sandwich. I know, it’s heresy — soy bacon. But it tastes so darned good.

Candy land with the slide in the background. I can’t wait to ride the slide.
How crazy is this? Mona’s iPhone takes a better shot than my digital camera!
