DC here I come
I debated it for weeks. And after seeing the price of air fare I found it difficult to justify it.
Then again seveal friends were going and I have friends in DC so…
Then one night recently I saw an air-fare deal that was tough to pass up.
So I’m off to DC for Inauguration Day in January, and I’ll be blogging and writing articles from the field.
I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be witness to history. It was easily the most fascinating election of my lifetime, and I thought the Chicago mayoral races of 1983 and 1987 couldn’t be topped. Man, was I wrong.
You can expect me to file stories about how our local Reps. John Campbell and Dana Rohrabacher are doing during the inauguration (and I’ll also do a little double-duty blogging for our sister papers in Glendale and Burbank, too). Right now Campbell’s staff is moving to new digs so they should be all moved in by then. By the way, Cambell’s staff tells me he’s getting a zillion requests for Inauguration Day tickets, probably among the highest number. That seems counterinuitive — why would very red Newport Beach be so interested in seeing the Democrat take the oath of office, but it probably has something to do with how wealthy Newport generally is. In other words, there are more people with the means to jet out to DC and actually get a hotel room!
Speaking of which, some friends of mine booked a hotel room many weeks ago so I can crash with them. Otherwise, I’d be out of luck. Some reports say 4 million might show up for the inauguration. Can you imagine?
